Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. has warned the public about fake news concerning the oil spill from the MT Terranova tanker that sank off Bataan on July 25.
He announced that the inter-agency task force handling the spill would conduct weekly inspections and briefings to provide accurate information and prevent panic.
The task force includes multiple government agencies, such as the Office of the Civil Defense and the Philippine Coast Guard.
The oil spill, initially reported to cover 12 to 14 kilometers, has reportedly reduced to 2 to 4 nautical miles, according to recent aerial monitoring.
Abalos emphasized the importance of avoiding misinformation to prevent unnecessary alarm.
