The entire 115,000 troops of the Philippine Army (PA) will assist the Philippine National Police (PNP) in securing the May 12 midterm elections. PA commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido confirmed that all troops would be involved, either directly or indirectly, in ensuring the success of the democratic exercise. Army personnel will assist in gathering and sharing vital information with concerned agencies, while commanders collaborate with the PNP to identify “critical areas” designated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Troop deployment preparations are progressing smoothly in advance of the elections.
