1,000 FARMERS, ACTIVISTS MARCH TO MENDIOLA VS. PAX SILICA, LAND GRABS

Around 1,000 farmers and members of more than 30 progressive groups marched to Mendiola in Manila on Oct. 21 to demand land rights and oppose the proposed Pax Silica hub in New Clark City, Tarlac.

The protest, organized by the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), was part of its “Lakbayan” activities for Peasant Month.

Participants also raised concerns about the impact of El Niño on farmers and called for the repeal of the Anti-Terror Law and the abolition of the NTF-ELCAC.

Several progressive leaders and organizations joined the demonstration.

The Manila Police District said no major disturbances were reported during the protest.
