Phivolcs has issued a warning about Mt. Kanlaon’s increased ground deformation, indicating possible explosive eruptions, with Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest) remaining in effect.
The volcano has shown pronounced inflation in its eastern flank and emitted 3,511 tons of sulfur dioxide, accompanied by volcanic earthquakes and brief ash emissions.
Communities within a 6-kilometer danger zone remain evacuated, while local officials monitor potential lahars during heavy rainfall.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has begun prepositioning 100,000 family food packs to assist evacuees, with Secretary Rex Gatchalian ensuring maximum warehouse capacity is met.
Phivolcs has also advised pilots to avoid the summit area due to potential hazards from ash emissions.
