Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto emphasized his administration’s fight against corruption and efforts to strengthen institutional reforms in a recent interview with The STAR.
Sotto stressed that corruption is rooted in weak institutions and cultural acceptance, and his leadership has demonstrated that change is possible, particularly by eliminating kickbacks and the “palakasan” system.
He highlighted the importance of transparency through initiatives like the “Ugnayan sa Pasig” freedom of information unit and the establishment of a Procurement Management Office.
Sotto is proud of accomplishments such as doubling scholarship beneficiaries and insulating the city bureaucracy from political interference, ensuring continuity in service delivery.
As he enters his second term, Sotto plans to expand key programs and hopes to be remembered for laying the foundation of good governance in Pasig.
