President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appealed to Arab nations for support in the Philippines’ bid for a temporary seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027–2028 term.
Speaking at the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council meeting, Marcos cited progress in the Bangsamoro peace process as proof of the country’s readiness to contribute to global peace efforts.
He emphasized the Philippines’ intention to bring the Southeast Asian region’s perspectives to the UNSC.
The Philippines has previously served as a non-permanent member of the UNSC in 1957, 1963, 1980, and 2004.
Marcos expressed hope that strengthened ASEAN-GCC partnerships would help foster peace, security, and prosperity for all member nations.
