The Department of Education (DepEd) inaugurated a new 24-classroom building at the Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales Integrated School (SPNAGIS) in Mandaluyong City as part of efforts to reduce the country’s classroom backlogs.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara noted that this is the first school in the Philippines to have a classroom surplus, calling it a rare and “one-of-a-kind” achievement.
The new building increases SPNAGIS’s total classrooms to 96, including 21 specialized laboratories and offices.
The project is part of the PPP School Infrastructure Project (PSIP 3), aiming to build 15,000 classrooms by 2027 and benefit over 600,000 learners while creating 18,000 jobs.
The country currently faces a nationwide backlog of more than 165,000 classrooms.
