President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. avoided impeachment after the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to dismiss complaints accusing him of graft, corruption, and constitutional violations.
A total of 284 lawmakers voted to junk the complaints, far exceeding the one-third vote required for impeachment, effectively barring any new cases against Marcos until next year.
Following the dismissal, impeachment efforts have shifted to Vice President Sara Duterte, with a third complaint transmitted to House Speaker Faustino Dy III over alleged misuse of confidential funds.
The complaint, filed by a group of clergy, civil society leaders, and lawyers, accuses Duterte of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust.
Duterte has declined to comment directly, saying her legal team is monitoring developments as the case moves through constitutional processes.
