The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reiterated that its social protection programs for indigent and near-poor individuals remain free from political influence.
DSWD Crisis Intervention Unit Director Edwin Morata emphasized that programs like Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) and Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) have strict policies preventing political exploitation.
Morata discouraged the presence of political figures during aid distributions to maintain program integrity, responding to claims that these programs were used politically during the 2025 midterm elections.
The DSWD also issued a joint memorandum with other agencies to safeguard AKAP as targeted assistance for below minimum wage workers.
Both AICS and AKAP provide critical support such as medical aid, burial assistance, and financial help, to vulnerable populations affected by economic hardship.
