DEPED DENIES REPORTS OF A P1,000 MONTHLY ALLOWANCE FOR STUDENTS

The Department of Education (DepEd) denied circulating rumors that all students would receive a P1,000 monthly allowance and that junior and senior high school students would undergo weekly alcohol tests.

DepEd urged the public to rely only on official sources for accurate information and to be cautious of fake news.

Recently, Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste filed a bill proposing a P1,000 monthly allowance for students to cover expenses, but it has yet to be enacted.

Meanwhile, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian defended the retention of the Senior High School (SHS) program and proposed shortening the college track to reduce costs and allow students to graduate earlier.

Critics, including Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, have called for abolishing SHS, arguing it adds financial burdens without delivering promised benefits.
