COMELEC ADVISES VOTERS TO VIEW VOTE BUYING AS AN INSULT

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged voters to reject vote buying and selling ahead of the May 12 elections.

At the launch of the Committee on Kontra Bigay in Manila, Comelec chairperson George Garcia emphasized that voters have the power to stop these practices by refusing to accept money from candidates.

Garcia called vote buying an insult, encouraging voters not to let their poverty be exploited.

He explained that vote buyers can’t influence elections unless voters accept the offers.

The Comelec reminded the public that both vote buying and selling are illegal under the Omnibus Election Code.
