CHR BACKS HB 8987, ADVOCATES FOR STRONGER CHILD SUPPORT LAWS

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) expressed its support for House Bill (HB) 8987, which seeks to penalize parents who neglect their child support obligations.

The bill, which has passed at the committee level, aims to hold parents accountable for failing to provide essentials such as education, food, and clothing for their children.

It includes penalties of up to six years in prison for deadbeat fathers. The CHR emphasized that parents must uphold their fundamental responsibility to ensure their children’s welfare, regardless of personal circumstances.

The commission also highlighted the importance of safeguarding children’s rights and fostering a culture of responsible parenting nationwide.
