The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) encouraged Catholics to observe digital media fasting this Lenten season, warning that excessive streaming and gaming can weaken one’s “interior life.”
In a pastoral letter, CBCP president Archbishop Gilbert Garcera said the practice is not anti-technology but a way to let Christ guide responsible media use.
He noted that the 40-day Lenten season begins on Feb. 18 with Ash Wednesday. Meanwhile, the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines welcomed the Senate’s move to advance the proposed Children’s Safety in Social Media Act.
AmCham stressed that child online safety should be achieved through shared responsibility among platforms, parents, educators, and the public and private sectors.
