The Philippines and the United States will once again lead the Balikatan exercises this month, with Japan, Australia, and other allied nations expected to participate.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla confirmed that Japan will be joining, following the signing of a Reciprocal Access Agreement in 2024, while agreements with Australia, Canada, and the EU are also being explored.
This year’s Balikatan will serve as a full battle test, allowing troops to apply techniques, tactics, and modernized equipment acquired through defense programs.
The US will deploy its NMESIS anti-ship missile system and unmanned surface vehicles to enhance advanced warfare training for both Filipino and American forces.
In addition to conventional military exercises, the training will also include cyber warfare drills to upgrade personnel skill sets and strengthen overall defense capabilities.
