Expelled Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. was rushed to a government hospital early Tuesday due to severe stomach pains, nearly a week after being transferred to the Metro Manila District Jail in Taguig.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said Teves first reported the issue Sunday night and was later recommended for hospital transfer after his condition worsened.
His lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, said government doctors advised major surgery and are arranging his move to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig under BJMP emergency protocols.
Teves, who reportedly collapsed in pain, faces multiple murder charges in connection with the 2023 killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and nine others.
After evading arrest for two years, Teves was deported from Timor-Leste in May.
