AÑO: ENDGAME APPROACHING IN NPA CONFLICT

The Philippine government is “nearing the endgame” in its fight against communist insurgency, according to National Security Adviser Eduardo Año.

He highlighted that recent joint military and police efforts have significantly weakened guerrilla fronts in Central Luzon and Surigao del Sur.

Año, who is also vice chairman of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac), expressed confidence that the complete elimination of all guerrilla fronts could be achieved before the end of the year, a year ahead of the original target.

Since the NTF-Elcac’s formation in 2018, 17 guerrilla fronts have been dismantled or weakened annually.

Despite ongoing efforts, Año emphasized the need to remain vigilant and continue providing development programs to reintegrate former insurgents into society.
